GHAZIABAD: Sticking to their stand that the abduction and gang rape allegations made by a 38-year-old woman, who was found in a sack on a road earlier this week, were fake, Ghaziabad police said on Friday her statement would be recorded and they would decide the next course of action after that.
The woman, in a video statement on Thursday night, accused police of lying, alleging an obfuscation attempt. On Friday, police sources said a team had been deployed at GTB Hospital, where she is admitted. “We are in touch with doctors and will take her statement or interrogate her when the doctors allow us,” said SP (crime) Diksha Sharma.
Originally, police had filed a case under IPC Section 376 after the woman accused five men of abducting her on the night of October 16 from Ashram Road in Raj Nagar Extension, holding her captive and raped her over two days and dumping her in a sack on the same road on October 18. But on Thursday, police claimed their investigation showed the abduction was staged.
The National Commission for Women (NCW), which had deplored the “barbaric” attack on the woman in a statement on Thursday, said on Friday it was informed by police about the findings. NCW said its fact-finding team had met the woman and her family members.
The SP (crime) said on Friday, “Azad, an associate of the woman, said he had transferred Rs 5,000 through a mobile wallet to a woman journalist in Delhi to create a buzz about the gang rape. Azad had also shot a video of the place where police found the woman. He sent her the photos and videos on WhatsApp. This was confirmed when we checked his mobile phone.” She added, “We are trying to trace her.”
